While promoting his latest movie, Neighbors 2, Zac Efron made a a major reveal: HE HATES THE FACT THAT HE PLAYED TROY BOLTON.
*fangirls everywhere scream into the abyss.
Not only does he hate the guy who played Troy, you know him, he actually want to commit physical violence against him. Okay, jeez, Zac. We get you’re embarrassed by your Disney dance routines! But aren’t you going a bit too far?
This coming on the tails of Zac not appearing in the cast reunion in January to celebrate the movie’s 10-year anniversary, shouldn’t make it too shocking. But perhaps Zac is forgetting that if it weren’t for High School Musical, he wouldn’t be where he is at all?
I mean there’s a reason the Disney Channel smash made him a star:
In a recent interview with Men’s Fitness, Zac had this to say about his career-making role and how it has made people perceive him. And kind of how he still sees himself. Back then at least:
“I step back and look at myself and I still want to kick that guy’s ass sometimes. Like, f-ck that guy. He’s done some kind of cool things with some cool people — he did that one thing [Neighbors] that was funny — but, I mean, he’s still just that fu–ing kid from [High School Musical].”
I mean I get wanting to be known for other things, but surely it isn’t the worst thing in the world? He wasn’t one of the Cheetah Girls or something.
Almost proving that Zac has been stigmatized by the role is what his Neighbors co-star, Seth Rogen had to say about Zac in the same interview:
“For sure, I assumed he’d be a guy I wouldn’t like very much. But he was very self-effacing and self-deprecating, and I remember really liking him. He won me over.”
Maybe he’s TOO self-deprecating though. Get’cha Head In The Game, Zac! Your HSM fans are pretty much who your fans are. And people who love abs.
