Disney Animation Studios (finally) announced that Wreck-it Ralph will, indeed, be getting a sequel, AND that it’s less than two years away!
The announcement came during a live Facebook broadcast where Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia director Rich Moore introduced a guy named Phil Johnson as his co-director on a mysterious new project. Shortly after, John C. Reilly (slightly inebriated or just very happy?) showed up with some giant foam hands, looking for almond milk (as John C. Reilly does). It was then that fans knew the mysterious “new project” was a Wreck-it Ralph sequel. Reilly then gave the official-official announcement, and even shared the film’s release date — March 9, 2018. Before he could continue and give away some details about the film, the broadcast cut out. (Oooohhh, so mysterious!)
While we don’t know much about Wreck-It Ralph 2‘s plot, Phil Johnson gave us some hints. In a press release, co-director Johnson revealed, “The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope. The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.” The poster released by Disney confirms this, as it depicts a bunch of common websites with slightly-skewed name parodies, such as Amazing (Amazon), LubHub (StubHub), and Gügle (Google, but for Germans only?). And judging by the poster, it looks like Sarah Silverman is going to be back to reprise her role as Ralph’s best friend, Vanellope Von Schweetz.
Wreck-it Ralph was so much fun that we’ve got some seriously high hopes already. How about you? Let us hear your thoughts on Twitter @Smosh!
