When she was 11 years old, Southland, New Zealand resident Sarah Simpson asked her parents for a horse. After being told that a horse was too expensive she decided to try riding a cow instead. That cow was 6-month-old Lilac. Not only did Lilac prove to be rideable, Sarah even taught her to jump over obstacles up to 4.5 feet high.
“She is a cow and I can’t expect her to ride like a horse,” Simpson admits. “Without a bit of prodding she wouldn’t really do anything, she has a very chilled-out nature.”
Sarah is now 18 years old and has since gotten a horse, but she still rides Lilac, who particularly loves long walks through the bush and swims in the river.
