Vitiligo Sufferer Was Bullied All Her Life So She Turned Her Body Into An Amazing Work Of Art

They say that beauty is more than skin deep. But for some it’s their skin that’s the problem, especially if they have vitiligo. For those who have never heard of the condition, vitiligo is a condition where patches of skin lose their pigment, becoming large, random blotches with sharply-defined margins. The condition is believed to be caused by environmental factors triggering an autoimmune disease, which results in the destruction of skin pigment cells.

Ash Soto, 21, was first diagnosed with vitiligo when she was 12 and was bullied consistently throughout school. However, in her late teens Ash decided to embrace her condition and show us all that real beauty is more than colour and pigment – it’s about owning your body and having the confidence to appreciate your own style. To that end, she’s hit back at her bullies with an amazing Instagram account, where she traces the contours of her vitiligo patches to turn her body into a canvas.

Scroll down to check out these beautiful works of art. But be warned, some of them are quite explicit.

1. ” I never realised how beautiful my vitiligo was,” Ash stated

2. “Until I traced it with a black marker”

3. “It really helps to bring out the different colours of my skin”

4. When someone asked Ash if she had showered in bleach, she felt ashamed

5. “I was so shocked that someone said that to me”
