Today the Department of Awesome Camouflage is taking lessons…

Today the Department of Awesome Camouflage is taking lessons from an Australian bird called the Tawny Frogmouth on how to hide in plain sight by looking like a dead tree stump. These birds are are nocturnal, so they often spend their days in pairs sitting on tree stumps with their heads pointing up toward the sky.

As you can see from the photo above, taken by Wayne Longmore at Neds Corner Station nature reserve in Victoria, the birds blend in perfectly to look like extensions of the dead tree.
