The summer heat inevitably makes wearing shorts and tank tops a necessity. Unfortunately, this clothing also seems to bring out the worst in the internet’s already hateful trolls.
Fortunately, plus-size blogger Loey Lane is here with a video that gives those haters an unapologetic middle finger — while simultaneously staying away from any name-calling.
Loey recently created a video to highlight the unsolicited criticism which often surrounds curvier women, particularly when they choose to show more than an inch of skin. She’s calling her video the “Fat Girl Summer Dress Code,” and the whole thing throws some pretty funny shade at all of the critics out there.
“We all know that there are a lot of opinionated people on the internet who like to tell us what we can and can’t wear, no matter what size we are,” Loey begins. “I have been informed many times on what I am and am not allowed to wear so I’m here to educate all of you on your summer dress code.”
“And if you’re thinking ‘Can’t I just wear anything I want?’ — No! Why would you do that? Why would anyone just wear what makes them confident, happy and not think about how others feel about the garments they’re putting on their own bodies?”
Loey then goes on to sarcastically tell her followers that crop-tops, shorts and form-fitting clothes aren’t viable options for curvy women, regardless of how good they look or how great they feel. Because wearing clothing is for the pleasure of other people, in case you didn’t know! It should go without saying that burdening other people with the sight of your body and its curves is simply inconsiderate.
“Being able to see your figure is unacceptable,” Loey concludes. “I would just maybe wear a brown sack … wear some leggings underneath obviously.”
Hopefully these “rules” will serve as a reminder to body-shamers everywhere of just how hateful and uppity they sound when they attempt to police another person’s wardrobe.
