Disney’s Zootopia is one of the biggest hit movies of the year (I mean it’s a Disney movie, so duh). But for an animated movie, it’s actually pretty edgy. The film deals with racism (with animals, but still).
But in early drafts of the film, Zootopia was even darker. The predator animals had to wear shock collars as a way to keep them in line. YIKES! And now a deleted scene has been released online that takes place at a “taming party” and goddamn is it disturbing. Nick and Judy enter the party and sneak through to avoid being caught, and it’s there that Judy sees a young polar bear being shocked. Making it even more depressing is that the party celebrates the polar bear “coming of age”, meaning part of becoming an adult is putting on a shock collar. The scene actually got to the storyboard stage before being dropped, which is kind of crazy. Check it out below:
