Even though it came out a few weeks agoStar Trek: Beyond is getting a publicity boost today because a video compilation of the cast goofing around doing Dubsmash videos on set was passed around on Facebook.
Karl Urban confesses at the top of the video that the cast was in what he called “a Dubsmash hole”, and if you watch the entirety of the video, you can see that he’s quite serious about that statement. The video mostly features Urban, John Cho, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, and the late Anton Yelchin, doing Dubsmashes that show the various cast members doing everything from an impassioned take on Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” to a well-choreographed version of the Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited” and Queen’s iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody”. There is something so damn charming about the obvious bromance between John Cho and Chris Pine, and we can’t understand why Karl Urban doesn’t star in every franchise movie ever because frankly he’s just the most charming man alive in addition to being perfect at everything — especially Dubsmashing.
The video is super fun from minute one, but it is bittersweet whenever Anton Yelchin enters the frame. It’s obvious he was such a fun-loving, good-humored guy, and to see him enjoying his time on the set of this huge movie just makes his death feel like an even bigger punch to the gut. RIP. 🙁
