Does everyone else feel as overwhelmed as I do by all the great stuff there is to watch right now? I mean, I’m way behind on internet darling Steven Universe, I still haven’t seen Star Trek — and apparently wasted a ton of time getting caught up, and I’ve only watched one episode of Stranger Things (so no, I don’t need any more movies to watch since I loved it, thankyouverymuch).
And somehow, I missed both Guardians of the Galaxy and Gravity Falls. Don’t hold this against me — there’s only so much time in the day, and I’ve watched a lot of other stuff. Are you as almost-caught up on The Night Of as I am? Didn’t think so.
Thankfully, I’ll get to become familiar with the writers of both the intergalactic buddy flick and animated cult classic about a weird summer camp at the same time. Nicole Perlman, who wrote Guardians, and Alex Hirsch, who created Gravity Falls, are reportedly in talks to team up and pen that Pokémon movie we told you about that for whatever reason will be about Great Detective Pikachu.

This announcement sounds great — everyone who’s seen them seems to love both Guardians and Gravity Falls — but I can’t help but feel a little sad. Now it sounds like Great Detective Pikachu will be more “Pikachu” (a fun, heartfelt, and nostalgic romp) and less “Great Detective” (a grim exploration of the nature of man as seen through the lens of a lone wolf investigating the criminal underworld).
Do the style of Gravity Falls and Guardians of the Galaxy line up enough for you to be excited about this movie? Let me know on Twitter @MikeyMcCollor!
