Snapchat is getting all fancy up in here now that it’s reeling in the cash. See, advertisers are learning that more mobile users are on Snapchat than Twitter, and so it’s making some upgrades. The social media app’s first move comes on its Discovery page, where users will no longer see just brand icons of popular news sites, but also image and headline previews of what that brand is featuring that day.
It’s kind of like Pinterest’s layout, only it’s scrollable and with way less casserole recipes and wedding dresses thrown in your face.
Snapchat hopes the redesign will make users more likely to engage with various companies’ professional content, as well as their friends’ endless silly-face content. Also, the redesign will make it so users won’t have to dig around to find their favorite Discover channels out of the whole list — they can just tap-and-hold to “subscribe” so they always show up first in “Recent Stories”. Basically, Snapchat wants users to engage with the companies that are sponsoring the app. Despite starting as the company that made sending nudie pics suuuuper convenient, Snapchat’s now ready to take the social media market for all its worth (essentially, Snapchat is the Kim Kardashian of apps).
