'Pokémon Red' and 'Blue' VIRUS Created: Be Careful Who You Link Up With

Attention, all weirdo retro video game hipsters — your Pokémon Red or Blue save file could be in danger! Youtube glitch-seeker MrCheeze has crafted a virus for the classic game, one transmitted by Game Boy link cable. Here’s a technical explanation for all you weirdo retro video game hipsters who are also computer hacking geniuses:

But here’s the bare-bones explanation of the virus — if you were to link up your copy of Pokémon Blue with someone else’s already-infected copy of Pokémon Red, their save file would rewrite yours. SO BE WARY AND ALSO CAREFUL — once your game is overwritten, not only would your screen explode in a colorful confetti of 9s and male Pokémon symbols, you’d also lose your rare Zapdos. Horrors.

That said, this virus is a good opportunity to talk about safe practices for anyone thinking of linking up with someone else.
