Pokémon Go has gotten some mixed publicity since it launched last month, thanks to the fact that it has lead to people being robbed, getting in car accidents, and straight up falling off cliffs. And while the app itself can’t be blamed for the human error, it could still use some super positive publicity to remind the public of all the good Pokémon Go could do. Case in point — IT JUST SAVE A MOTHERF*CKING ICE CREAM SHOP!!
Mad Hatter’s Ice Cream shop in Anacortes, Washington, has been struggling to keep the lights on ever since it opened. But thanks to the depot across the street becoming a Pokéstop, owner Gary Dear has had his ice cream sales triple. “Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expected it to end up like this,” he explained to news station KSDK. “I’ve never seen anything take off like this.” Luckily for Dear, nothing makes nerds hungrier for ice cream than catching a Sandshrew!
According to Dear, in the weeks before Pokémon Go was launched, he had to close up shop while he was recovering from an illness. But since he came back and Pokémon Go took his town by storm, he’s had so much business that he’s had to extend hours and hire extra employees! Woohoo! Pokémon Go: creating jobs and curing disease since 2016! (Okay it’s not curing anything yet, BUT I HAVE FAITH!)
