Microsoft Announces Windows 10 Creators Update and New High-End Surface Studio

Microsoft announced its latest operating system Windows 10 Creators Update along with updates to its Surface line including the new Surface Studio in a live streamed event held on October 26, 2016 in New York City.

The Windows 10 Creators Update has a strong focus on 3D integration into many aspects of computing. The presentation included demonstrations of 3D versions of Paint and PowerPoint that now allows users to quickly create, display, and share 3D objects.

The 3D integration in Windows 10 Creators Update carried over to Hololens as well, where users can simply bring digital 3D objects created in Windows 10 into the augmented reality world. Along with Hololens, the presentation included a look at a virtual reality environment that makes use of Windows 10 Creators Update.

Windows 10 Creators Update also brings significant updates to gaming, with easy game broadcasting built-in with a partnership with Beam.

Surface Studio

Microsoft announced the launch of its new product, the Surface Studio, a high-powered desktop PC with a brilliant 28″ display designed for professional creators. The Surface Studio can be positioned at any angle, including an almost table-top configuration similar to an artist’s drafting table.

Inside, the studio sports an i7 Intel® Core™ Processor, an up to 4GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GPU, and up to 32GB RAM.

The Surface Book also saw a high-end update with the launch of the Surface Book i7 with improved specs like an Intel® Core™ i7 processor with 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® dGPU, and 16GB of RAM.

An overall theme to the presentation was that Microsoft is focusing on letting users maximize their creativity, a message they summarized in the event’s closing video “We are all creators.”
