Late night hosts often speak of the struggle to strike a respectful and meaningful tone after a week like this one of near ceaseless national tragedy.
Host Larry Wilmore opened The Nightly Show on Wednesday with a powerful monologue about the death of Alton Sterling.
“Thank God for fucking cellphones,” Wilmore said. “Because we would never even hear about incidents like this otherwise.”
He criticized pundits who talk about #AllLivesMatter and concluded with a plea for understanding.
“The punishment for being a black man shouldn’t be death,” Wilmore said.
Watch for yourself.
