You may have noticed that yesterday was International Women’s Day, a day which celebrates women and the incredible work they do in societies around the world. You may also have noticed that Donald Trump, a man not exactly known for his respectful attitude towards women, tweeted out the following in order to observe the day:
“I have tremendous respect for women and the many roles they serve that are vital to the fabric of our society and our economy. On International Women’s Day, join me in honoring the critical role of women here in America & around the world.”
As you’d expect, there were several vocal critics of Trump’s seemingly innocuous tweet. If these tweets had been sent by almost any other politician in the world, they wouldn’t have raised a single eyebrow. But then again, most politicians don’t have a history of rape allegations, sexual misconduct, and calling breastfeeding mothers “disgusting”. The irony was simply too strong to ignore, and Twitter had a field day pointing out all the times Trump has been less than respectful towards women.
Now, I’m sure you’ve noticed that there’s one woman missing from this Donald Trump roasting party. She just so happens to be one of the most famous authors of our time and loves nothing more than taking any opportunity to make a dig at the President. JK Rowling, would you please stand up.
