When it comes to watchable actors, Chris Hemsworth is one of my favourites – and that’s not just because he’s built like a norse god. The Australian actor and former soap heartthrob has taken on a variety of roles in his career, and is equally at ease playing a comedy side character in the Ghostbusters as he is adept at portraying a superhero who loves to drop the hammer.
Recently he’s shown considerable range in movies such as In The Heart of the Sea, a film examining the famous wreck of the whaling vessel The Essex in the 19th century, as well as Rush, a biopic about the rivalry between Formula One racers James Hunt and Niki Lauda.
But the thing that Hemsworth is probably best known for, at least among some of his more amorous fans, is his bulging biceps and his incredible commitment to bulking-up big time for his roles. He bulked up to play Thor in 2011 and then had to quickly slim down again during production because he’d got too big for the costume! Then he had to lose nearly 30 pounds worth of muscle to play James Hunt and then had to gain it all back again for Thor: The Dark World. Phew! That’s a lot of time in the gym.
