Because we should all end our weeks a little smarter than we were before, every Friday we pick a topic and tell you five facts you may not have known! Use these to impress your friends over the weekend.
We all wish we were Beyoncé, but there can only be one Queen Bee. Here are five facts about Beyoncé so that we may bask in her fiereceness.
She Won Her First Talent Show at Age Seven
If it feels like Beyoncé has been doing this her whole life, it’s because she has. She entered her first talent show at the tender age of seven, and won by singing “Imagine” by John Lennon. The little Queen Bee received a standing ovation. Aww!!
She Watched Videos of Her Performances Like a Football Player
She may have caused controversy at the Superbowl, but Beyoncé has taken a cue from professional football players. Beyoncé’s dad-slash-manager-slash-task master made the girls in Destiny’s Child sing while jogging in order to build up their performance stamina. He also made Beyoncé study the videos of great performers, just like football teams study their competitors’ tapes.
She Wouldn’t Like Sasha Fierce if She Met Her
Beyoncé famously created an stage persona named Sasha Fierce to get over her stage fright, but Beyoncé and Sasha Fierce would not get along IRL. “I wouldn’t like Sasha if I met her offstage,” Beyoncé said in a 2006 interview. She’s “too aggressive, too strong, too sassy, and too sexy.” Beyoncé and Sasha Fierce have since parted ways. “I don’t need Sasha Fierce anymore, because I’ve grown, and I’m now able to merge the two,” Beyoncé said. Looks like she told Sasha Fierce to the left, to the left…
Her Pregnancy Announcement Holds a Record
Beyoncé announced her pregnancy with Blue Ivy at the end of her performance of “Love on Top” during the 2011 MTV VMAs. That pregnancy announcement now holds the Guinness World Record for “most tweets per second”. How many Tweets does one have to have to earn that title? Exactly 8,868 tweets per second. Yowza!
She Likes to Paint
Beyoncé isn’t just a singer/songwriter/dancer/goddess — she’s also a painter. She began painting at the age of 17, at first copying Vincent Van Gogh’s style. She’s such an art fan that she says seeing Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel was one of most “spectacular experiences” in her life. And that’s Beyoncé saying that!
