Ed Sheeran is being sued for $20 million after two songwriters claimed he ripped off their song. In 2012, Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard wrote a song called “Amazing” for British singer and X-Factor winner Matt Cardle. now they’re claiming that Ed completely ripped off the song and turned it into his award-winning hit “Photograph”.
Before you decide whether you’re an #EdSheeranTruther or not, take a listen to “Amazing” (and pay close attention to that sh*tty chorus):
And now listen to the much better song, “Photograph” by Ed Sheeran (and pay close attention to the much less sh*tty chorus):
Yes, they are similar, but a blatant rip off? It’s just really hard to believe that Ed Sheeran, who is one of the most prolific songwriters in the game today, went ahead and knowingly ripped off a fellow (and much worse) artist’s music. And even if he did rip off this song, it’s incredible that Sheeran was inspired by such a boring tune. But according to Harrington and Leonard, “Photograph” contains 39 notes that are identical in pitch, rhythmic duration, and placement to “Amazing”, and now they want $20 million for damages.
Ed and his label haven’t responded to the suit, but while they’re probably sweating over the possibility of losing all those $$$ (bills), Matt Cardle is probably happy that his music/video is subsequently getting all those (-_-) (-_-) (-_-) (bored faces watching his sh*t). Hey, a bored view is still a view in this town!!
