If you find yourself oversaturated in internet culture (as I frequently do), then you are likely aware of the popular meme from 2015 involving Demi Lovato and her twin sister, “Poot.”
The meme started when a somewhat unflattering photo was taken of Demi at a rather bizarre angle. The internet dubbed the unrecognizable person in the photo as “Poot,” Lovato’s twin sister who was “locked in a basement her whole life.”
Poot Lovato became a widely recognized fixture in internet culture for a few months, there.
The memes were ridiculous, but I’m ashamed to admit that I laughed at many of them.
At the time, Demi responded to meme fervor with disdain, throwing some major side-eye at people who thought the Poot phenomenon was hilarious.
However, on Tuesday morning, that all changed.
Demi tweeted out a Poot gif. SHE WILLINGLY TWEETED OUT A POOT GIF.
No one is sure what prompted this unusual move from Demi, but the internet was too overjoyed to question the pop star’s sudden acceptance of her nonexistent basement-dwelling twin sister.
Twitter celebrated Poot’s release with unbridled enthusiasm.
Some people are annoyed, some people are thrilled, but everyone is ultimately relieved that Poot is back, and that Demi is (apparently) willing to embrace her twin sister.
Welcome back, Poot. We thought we could rid ourselves of your presence, but thankfully, we were so wrong.
