It’s difficult to perpetually come up with innovative recipes — even if you’re a huge food publication, apparently.
Bon Appétit recently tweeted out an article which offended everyone’s food sensibilities. The post detailed the making of a trendy “new” dish called the “hand salad,” which the author encouraged readers to use as an appetizer for any low-key dinner parties.
The only catch? The whole thing seemed like an early April Fool’s joke.
Yes, you are interpreting this tweet correctly: a “hand salad” is when you dip whole lettuce leaves into a salad dressing and then eat them. Because saying “the stuff you only offer guests when you have nothing else in your refrigerator” just doesn’t have the same ring to it as “hand salad.”
Seriously, did somebody just forget that their food article was due and churn this garbage culinary invention?
Twitter is, predictably, not amused by this lazy invention, and is collectively dragging Bon Appétit (and its lettuce leaves) through the virtual mud.
Good job, Bon Appétit. You came up with a worse name for something that already exists. Fortunately, the sweet burns almost make it worth it.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go have some hand bread (which is just toast that you eat without a plate).
