Being constantly tired makes accomplishing anything a hundred times harder. Not only are you trying to get something done, you’re also just trying to keep your eyelids open. You’re in an epic battle against yourself. Must. Stay. Awake. Right now, for instance, I’m writing this but I’d give anything to just crawl back into bed, pull the covers over me, and sleep for THE REST OF THE DAY. If you’re always tired, you’ll have these experiences on a daily basis:
Reading is nearly impossible
You have to read for school, but the second you crack open a book, you’re out. Getting through an entire chapter without dozing off is a miracle. It’s almost like words on a page are special lullaby that sends you immediately to dreamland.
People are always telling you that you look tired
“No sh*t Sherlock. I look tired because I am tired. But thanks for making me self-conscious about the dark circles under my eyes.” The number one comment people make to you is that you look like you could use a few more hours of sleep. (To be fair, you probably could.)
You can fall asleep nearly anywhere
Your unconscious calls to you like a siren. It doesn’t matter where you are: class, the hallway, the passenger side of a car — if you’re not talking, you’re probably snoozing. Your ability to sleep anywhere is kind of like a superpower (hey, it’s all in the way you look at things). Your surroundings don’t have to be comfortable, quiet, or private in any way.
You’re always daydreaming about your bed
Forget about fantasizing about your crush or a tropical vacation — you’re mind is always wandering back to your bed. Like, you might be in love with your bed. You and your bed are the OTP.
English is hard
Words require a certain amount of alertness of which you are just not capable. You’re always just getting the general idea of what you’re trying to say out, and other people are left to try and decipher what you mean. It’s kind of like a fun game except you’re too tired to enjoy it.
As soon as you get home, you go supine
The amount of time from when you walk into your house and when you’re sitting or lying down is under five seconds. You get home, you take off your pants, and you crash. Standing up is overrated anyways.
You can never “catch up”
Some people think you can just sleep a little extra one night and go back to feeling rested. THAT NEVER HAPPENS FOR YOU. You’re in a cycle of tiredness that isn’t going to end anytime soon. You can sleep when you’re dead (or at least when you’re done with school).
If you made it through this whole thing without falling asleep, pat yourself on the back. Maybe you should reward yourself with a nap. GOODNIGHT.
