7 Directors Who Deserve a Shot at a Marvel Movie

It’s long been accepted that film is a director’s medium, which means that directors are largely seen as the author of their movies. I think it’s time that some of those authors get the credit for some of their lesser appreciated films, and today, that credit comes in the form of getting the reigns of a Marvel movie. Here are the directors we want to see take the reigns of their own corner of the MCU!

The action in the Marvel movies can range from perfect to pretty good, but imagine a director with a track record of incredible choreographed action taking the helm of a Marvel property. The director of John Wick would certainly fit that definition. Just imagine that kind of incredibly fluid, graceful fight scene worked into a Black Widow movie.

Steven Spielberg

The most successful director in the history of film, the maker of dreams, the big daddy; Steven Spielberg has made some of the biggest movies of all time, and produced many more all-timers. Imagine the biggest director on Earth directing a movie from the biggest film series of all-time. Could it raise our expectations so high the resulting film would inevitably be an absolute disaster?! Yes, but THAT WOULD BE EVEN MORE EXCITING!

Edgar Wright

Even though he left the project, the man who nearly directed Ant-Man still left his fingerprints all over the film that was eventually released. And those fingerprints were the best parts of the movie. Edgar Wright deserves to make his Marvel movie, restrictions from the studio be damned.

Kathryn Bigelow

Marvel movies are rarely described as tense. You know what Kathryn Bigelow movies are? Tense as hell. Super heroes could really benefit from the god of slow burn, on-edge tension of a Kathryn Bigelow picture.

Lexi Alexander

Lexi Alexander has directed a lot of TV, but she was also the first woman to direct a Marvel film. Sure, it was Punisher: War Zone, but it still counts (SIDEBAR: That movie’s better than you think). She deserves to get ahold of a proper in-universe MCU movie, though, as she’s a director with great instincts for action (she does a lot of choreography, as well as some stunt work).

Chan-Wook Park

Boy, imagine the sick, psychological hell super hero characters would have to endure if the director of Oldboy was telling their tale. Rough break.

WHAT A BETRAYAL OF DC AND WARNER BROTHERS THIS WOULD BE! And you know that I love drama.
