Arthur memes are dead. Long live the meme. What comes next? Only time will tell. While there are a lot of shows on the internet from which the next meme could come, here are some children’s TV shows we think are prime contenders to be mashed up with relatable real-world observations:
First of all, the name “Goof Troop” is incredibly meme-able. It could be a great roast, a sort of inverted “squad goal”, like “Your squad looking like a goof troop” (Someone get Drake on the line, this line could be fire). But if the titular semantics aren’t enticing enough, Goof Troop also has a bunch of great GIFs. Look at Goofy cut that sausage. That definitely feels relatable in some way. He’s so intense. So focused. That sausage is getting cut up! Damn bruh. Write a funny caption to the GIF and get the ball rolling!
Rollie Polie Olie
Look at Olie Polie slam that cup down on the table! He is fed up with this sh*t… or so a caption on that still might lead you to believe. It also helps that all of these weird little robots look either drunk or high.
The Berenstain Bears checks a lot of meme boxes — it’s already well known in internet culture, since it proved the existence of parallel universes. And while people have been making funny titles and reworking the covers of Berenstain Bears books for years, the show had a tendency for moral lessons, involved anthropomorphic animals, and had various secondary characters just weird enough to be funny — just like Arthur. I mean, look at that bear in a hat. What’s he all about? Definitely a meme in there somewhere. What about Papa Bear stealing Mama Bear’s sandwich? That’s basically a line from a Kanye song. This could really be a thing guys…
The Magic School Bus
Since Arnold is basically a proxy for Arthur, The Magic School Bus seems like a no brainer fill-in for Arthur Memes. The show’s major drawback might be that it’s too high concept — the school bus transforming into a bat may look silly, but can you imagine understanding what’s going on just seeing it out of context on Tumblr? And while Arnold taking off his helmet in space and freezing to death is already a great meme, it definitely has potential to grow. The “I would rather be dead to spite you” eye-squint he gives in the instance before becoming frozen says everything. Take this GIF and give it new life, internet! Make it live again, as Ms. Frizzle made Arnold live again after he froze to death in space!
Hear me out on this one — maybe the next Arthur-esque meme won’t be a children’s show, but instead a show about investing. Mad Money with Jim Cramer has been the butt of jokes in many mediums, but making it serve Reddit’s purposes seems like the exact type of thing the internet would do. It also helps that the show has a bunch of weird moments.
