Early American settlers would put urine on their face/body when they had acne outbreaks. It sounds gross, but have you ever seen a painting of a pimple-faced pilgrim? No, you have not. #TryIt!

In 20th Century England, people wrapped their dirty socks around their necks when they had a sore throat. That said, they might have been doing it as an indication to loved ones and strangers to steer clear so that they wouldn’t get infected themselves, as opposed to believing this was actually a bonafide sore throat cure. But also they wrapped bacon around their throats before bedtime as a sore throat remedy, so who knows what the f*ck was going on with the British during this time. #Don’tTryIt

Hard-Boiled Eggs For Bruises

According to Ancient Chinese Medical texts, if you slip a silver coin vertically inside a peeled, freshly hard-boiled egg, until its edge matches up with the top of the egg, and then place the warm (not hot) egg onto your bruise, it will get rid of the discoloration. This one is so freaking weird it deserves to be tried just because someone was high enough in Ancient China to come up with it. #TryIt

This one calls for eating one to three garlic cloves dipped in chocolate per day to avoid/help with memory loss. As gross as it sounds, garlic and chocolate both contain plenty of antioxidants, which help protect brain cells. But still, it’s gross. #Don’tTryIt

Garlic In the Ear for a Toothache

Ear infections are usually caused by bacteria, which can cause swelling and excess fluids. According to this folk remedy, the garlic helps drain that excess fluid. Rather than stick a clove inside your ear (because ew), here is a more practical way to try out this folk remedy:

1. Place a freshly chopped clove of garlic inside a cloth.
2. Place the cloth in a bowl of hot water.
3. Drain excess water from cloth.
4. Place cloth over your ear and tell your mom to stop asking questions when she asks where all her garlic went. #TryIt
