The next time your parents tell you to do your homework, get your grades up, or think about your future, just tell them you plan on becoming a billionaire high school drop out! And when they start laughing in your face and say “That isn’t possible”, just show them this list of the insanely wealthy people who never got their diplomas! And remember, #AnythingIsPossibleWhenYouAreAGenius…
Richard Branson grew up in England and dropped out of school at age 16. He spent his time running a mail-order record retailer he founded (records were the MP3’s of the ’60s, kids). That little company turned into the huge enterprise now known as the Virgin Records stores and music label, which signed artists like Katy Perry, The Rolling Stones, and the late David Bowie, to name a few. Today, Branson’s massive empire includes 200 companies, such as Virgin Airlines, music festivals, and even cell phones. His estimated net worth is a cozy $6.8 billion. (Too bad no one’s buying records anymore!)
Carl Lindner, Jr.
Carl Lindner, Jr. dropped out of high school to be a milk delivery man for his family’s dairy company. In 1984, he bought Chiquita Brands International (you’ve definitely seen the label if you’ve ever bought bananas), which he ran it until retiring in 2001. Lindner’s estimated net worth is now a modest $1.7 billion! Thas a lotta bananas!
Now this is a guy you’re about to be reallllll jealous of. Not only did Frenchman François Pinault quit high school in 1947 (before it was even cool to quit high school), he went to work at his father’s lumber mill. So yeah, he quit school to become a French motherf*cking lumberjack! Pinault now has holdings in brands such as Gucci, Samsonite, and Puma, which has lead him to an $8.7 billion fortune. Oh, and PS, he’s married to one of the most beautiful women on the planet, Selma Hayek.
You wouldn’t believe it from the picture above, but Kirk Kerkorian dropped out of school in the 8th grade to pursue amateur boxing. That sounds like a pretty dumb decision, but it lead Kerkorian to eventually becoming a mega-resort tycoon worth $3.1 billion dollars.
This guy is smiling for a very, very good reason — Amancio Ortega is the richest man in Spain and one of the richest in the world. Ortega quit school at age 14 to run errands for local mom-and-pop t-shirt stores before founding a company called Inditex, which is a fashion empire that counts Zara and Massimo Dutti among its brands. Ortega is now worth $31 billion, which is frankly just an uncomfortable amount of money.
Have any of these stories convinced you to drop out of school?! (Don’t do that, seriously.)
