With Angry Birds finally upon us and Fruit Ninja in the near future, it’s becoming clear that mobile apps are the latest in strange source material for feature-length films. So why not keep extrapolating this trend to ridiculous ends? Here are five apps that need to be turned into movies next.
Depending on your perspective, that smiling little guy might either be a speech bubble or a ghost. For the sake of cinematic appeal, let’s go with Mr. Waze being at least semi-spectral. In this adaptation, he teams up with a clueless human and, rather than avoiding traffic, pointlessly warns him about vehicles on the side of the road every 30 seconds. The sequel will definitely feature the human sidekick having to cross four lanes of busy traffic just to shave two minutes off his ETA.
Meet Graham. Normally, our young friend is invisible, but if someone needs to desperately share the hot new craft brewery they discovered or distribute a new Crying Jordan meme, he becomes INSTAGRAM, a superhero of only mild convenience who is rapidly approaching obsolescence thanks to a certain dancing ghost…
That’s right, baby, the hot new summer blockbuster is Snapchat, featuring disturbingly adult content but almost certainly marketed towards a tween demographic. And sure, there might be some scenes where this friendly ghost is used to show how much fun someone is having in a very specific location, but come on, we know what it’s really being used for. SHAME.
A delightful romp through the sky, featuring a main character that is definitely an original creation and not a blatant rip off of one of the most beloved game franchises of all time. The film will be simple but sort of fun, and then vanish without a trace just when people are starting to get into it.
