13 Unnecessary Worries Every 20-Something Has On A Regular Basis

After graduating from college, we enter this semi-terrifying place called the “real world.” In this place, there are all kinds of things to worry about and all sorts of adulting you’re supposed to be doing. It’s easy to become overwhelmed and feel like you’re not doing it right, whatever “it” is anyway.

Have no fear, though, because you’re not alone. We all experience some form of quarter life crisis and these are just a few of the worries we could stand to take off our already full plates.

1. Whether you’re meeting your life goals “on time.”

16-year-old you may have thought that by 25 you’d have it all figured out. Meaning,  a serious relationship and a fool-proof career path, but things don’t always come together as planned and that’s A-okay. Besides, what fun would that be anyway?

2. Picking one career for your entire life.

First of all, people switch careers all the time. So, there’s no need to stress over being “stuck” in the same field forever. If you’re not happy, you move on. Try something totally different and even then you may change your mind. Don’t worry you have time.

3. Not having plans on a Friday/Saturday night.

*Gasp* It’s not the end of the world. This is what takeout and Netflix were invented for. You don’t constantly have to be out and about. A chill night in is healthy and 100% OK.

4. Sleeping with “too many” people.

If you’re not currently in a serious relationship, this is the time to have different sexual experiences. Find out what you like, just take the necessary precautions and don’t listen to anyone who shames you for it.

5. Having money.

Newsflash: most of us are broke. Sure, we might be slightly less broke than college, but it takes a while to hit a somewhat “financially stable” stage in your life so don’t stress too much about it.

6. What other people think about you and your life choices.

At the end of the day, the only opinion that truly matters is yours. If you’re happy and taking care of yourself, it’s no one else’s damn business. Worrying about what other people think will only cause you more unnecessary stress.

7. If you should be settling down.

Whether you’re single or in a relationship, settling down doesn’t need to be a priority unless you want it to be. It’s better to take the extra time to feel things out than to rush into a marriage. Again, you’re in your twenties, take a deep breath and don’t put so much pressure on yourself.

8. If you see your family enough.

Obviously, family time should be a priority, but you can’t always please everyone. You do the best you can to be there when it counts. Oh, and call your mom at least a few times a month otherwise you’re just asking for a freak out.

9. If you’re living healthy enough.

Yes, you could always stand to be more health conscious but don’t make yourself crazy over it. That “treat yo’ self” Chinese takeout isn’t going to kill you. Just attempt a workout a couple days a week and mix some greens in your diet now and then.

10. How many friends you have.

At this point in your life, quality definitely trumps quantity. The friends you have now will likely be there for life, so choose wisely. Don’t waste time on any catty bullshit.

11. Getting enough sleep.

Researchers will always say that you’re not sleeping enough, which is true, but there’s no point getting overly consumed with it. Try to set a bed time and stick to it, but don’t beat yourself up for catching a late movie or staying up to have a fun night out. Life will go on.

12. Staying up to date with trends.

There will constantly be some new/hot trend that’s popular among the “youths.” Don’t feel the need to always be in the know. It’s pretty much impossible and utterly pointless, tbh, because there will just be something different to obsess over tomorrow.

13. Doing it all.

FOMO is very real, especially when you hit your mid to late 20’s. There’s this urge to do anything and everything when the opportunity arises, but you’ll make yourself crazy trying to keep up. Prioritize and make the most of the experiences you do attend.

What do you think?
